Reuniting during another frigid weekend at Dogman Nick’s funny farm, Smith and Jones’s second winter album follows last February’s “Sniff the Ring Piece” with another set of old-time classics recorded amid a rush of tiger fudge, amyl nitrate and sarsaparilla. Imagining themselves as self-lubricating slugs outside a post-capitalist pleasure dome run by lizards, eagles and dragons, Smith & Jones find solace amid the world’s last sycamore tree and bury their distaste for neoliberal overlords under the flavors of the world’s finest mustards— only to emerge amid the artisanal dip manufacturers and lighthouse keepers on an island overrun with wild ponies. Thankfully, their Land Rover still has a few miles to go, and the record of this tall tale survived.
